This is a very popular competition on the annual Fishing Calender and people come from across the country to join in this Deep Sea extravaganza. With boats large and small and fisherman young and old working hard in the attempt to land the biggest one. With the Tuna and Marlin waters with in reach of a two to three hour trip it makes Richards Bay a Big Game Fish destination.
This type of Fishing is not a spectator sport, but the launching of the boats and the weighing of the fish does have it's viewing rewards. Just to see these majestic machines bobbing up and down the harbor and the smell of fresh sea breeze and some times two stroke motor fumes is an awestruck moment. The deep grunt of the bigger motors wakens a yarning to work hard and prosper.
What ever revs your engine the Water Front of Richards Bay is buzzing this time of the year and many holiday makers are flocking to the waters at Alkant Strand and for those who care not to frolic in the water there is always the skateboard venue. On Naval Island is Top Deck Restaurant and Dross. Some small curios and clothing shops and do not forget the harbor cruise.
